But all this type of talk and chatter has just changed because Toledo just won what the world surfing elite has called: The best Surfing Event Ever, The 2017 J-Bay Open in South Africa.
The quality of the surfing conditions at J-Bay was all time. With multiple clean swells, the surfing world witnessed J-Bay at its best. The world’s best surfers showed TV and internet audiences around the world how captivating competitive surfing can be. Add to that a few sharks, boats riding 7ft waves, controversies, huge airs and numerous 10 point rides it was the most entertaining event is surfing history.
But J-Bay Open 2017 belonged to Toledo. He had all the weapons and his wave selection was impeccable. Toledo proved that he has an epic rail game, even against guys like Jordy Smith and Julian Wilson. Toledo beat all the so called favorites to claim his 4th WCT victory. Toledo moves to #7 in the WCT rankings and is a serious title contender where he will get to compete at some of his favorites events such as Trestles, Hossegor and Peniche.
